8th March - Mindful Weaving Workshop
As spring returns to the landscapes of Royal Deeside, join Lucy at her Maryfield Studio for a relaxed and restorative day of weaving. Surrounded by emerging green and birdsong, this workshop is a celebration of new rhythms. Nestled among woodlands and fields, the Maryfield studio near Banchory offers a tranquil retreat from everyday busyness, surrounded by fields, trees, and open skies. This is a day to slow down, breathe deeply and enjoy the quiet rhythm of weaving in gentle company.
You’ll be guided through the basics of handweaving on a pre-threaded table loom, with the option to choose your loom type when you book: a rigid heddle, a 4-shaft, or an 8-shaft table loom. Each offers a different level of intricacy, but all are suitable for curious beginners and those with more experience alike.
With soft wool warps naturally dyed using pant materials from the Maryfield grounds and a palette of carefully selected weft yarns, you’ll spend the day immersed in colour, texture and meditative making. There’s no rush, no pressure, just the soothing repetition of the loom and the satisfaction of seeing your fabric grow, row by row.
Whether you create a cosy cowl, a woven panel or simply follow your hands wherever they want to go, this is time just for you. Whether you're drawn to soft pastels or bold seasonal colours, this is a time to reconnect with making and enjoy the quiet joy of handwoven cloth.
