7th March - Social Weaving Workshop
Join Lucy for a joyful and sociable day of weaving at Maryfield Studio surrounded by the emerging green of spring just outside Banchory. With birdsong in the air and fresh colour in the fields, the studio is the perfect place to shake off the winter and immerse yourself in a creative day out.
In this workshop, you'll learn the fundamentals of weaving on a table loom and have the option to reserve one of three loom types when you book: a rigid heddle, a 4-shaft table loom or an 8-shaft table loom. Each offers a different level of complexity, so you can choose the right one for your interests and experience (but all are perfectly fine for a beginner!)
We’ll explore a range of weaving structures and techniques, working with colourful weft yarns on a wool warp, which has been naturally dyed using seasonal plant materials from the Maryfield grounds, pre-threaded and ready for you to start weaving. Whether you’re weaving a cosy cowl scarf, a length of fabric to turn into something special or just want to have a go and see where the loom takes you, you’ll leave with a one-of-a-kind textile and hopefully some new weaving friends too!
