16th August - Natural Dyes Workshop - Sustainable Foraging & Bath Dyeing
Spend an afternoon at the studio as guest artist Alice Sowa, visiting from Iceland and Lucy from Arra Textiles guide you through traditional dyeing techniques using local plants and foraged materials.
You’ll learn:
- How to safely and sustainably forage for local dye plants
- How you would mordant yarn and fabric for vibrant, lasting colour
- How to create and work with seasonal dye baths
- How to shift and modify colour using iron, vinegar, and soda ash
- Techniques for dyeing both yarn and cloth
You’ll take home naturally dyed samples and a deeper understanding of plant-based colour that you can build on in the future.
There will also be a selection of pre-mordanted yarns and dye materials available to buy at the end of the workshop.
