Susurration

My most recent wall hanging, ‘Susurration’. The abstract design is based on a pastel drawing of a wildflower meadow at sunset.
The wool weft yarn has been naturally dyed using sustainably foraged plant materials from the flower farm around the Arra Textiles studio. Blended to create 40 different colour combinations throughout the wall hanging. 
Hand woven using heritage tapestry weaving techniques on a dobby floor loom, the fabric consists of a subtly repeating micro, created with tiny woven structures on the floor loom. From a distance, this pattern forms a larger repeating motif which mirrors the ripples created by wind sweeping over the wild-flower meadow at harvest time.
